Sinus Irrigation
What is Pulsatile Sinus Irrigation?
Studies have shown that phlegm from the sinuses, bacteria and material in the throat, and on the tongue, all contribute to bad breath or halitosis problems. Sinus irrigation with the Hydro-Pulse™ helps by taking care of the phlegm from the nose. The throat irrigator takes advantage of the gentle but effective pulsing action of the Hydro-Pulse™ unit by removing the biofilm that is so often part of the cause of halitosis in many people. The biofilm is a polysaccharide matrix that bacteria produce as a protective coating. This protective matrix is very difficult for medications to penetrate and is one of the main causes why antibiotics have difficulty in dealing with bacterial infections of the sinuses and nasal areas. Often times the post nasal drainage produces a biofilm on the tongue that helps provide an ideal environment for the halitosis or anaerobic bacteria to thrive in.
Breaking up this biofilm in the nasal, sinus, and oral regions is an important part of treating many halitosis conditions. It is also very important for the prevention of allergy symptoms, post nasal drainage, and sinus infections. Using the Hydro-Pulse™ allows the user to break up this protective matrix and diminish the biofilm. We see many patients who have used simple methods of pouring a saline solution into their nasal passages using a gravity fed device like a small pot or container. Nasal spray bottles with saline are even less effective because they supply so little saline solution, and they are so extremely limited in how far the spray can reach into the sinuses. Because these all types of devices are not capable of getting very far into the sinuses their effectiveness is very limited. Also because they are gravity fed and do not have the pulsing action of the Hydro-Pulse™ machine they are incapable of breaking up the all important biofilm, or breaking up the congestion in the sinuses that so many people suffer from. If you are suffering from halitosis and also have post nasal drainage, allergies, and or sinus conditions then the Comprehensive Treatment Kit and Hydro-Pulse™ sinus irrigator (Purchase link) would be an appropriate treatment program to follow. This combination allow the Hydro-Pulse™ sinus irrigator to break up the protective layer of biofilm in the nasal, sinus, and oral regions, thus allowing the medications we use for treating halitosis to gain access to the bacteria that cause halitosis.
